Stay Present & Savour the Sweet Moments on Your Wedding Day
After so many months of planning, and possibly years of daydreaming,
we have a lot of expectations when it comes to our wedding day. Those 24 hours
will go by just as quickly, if not quicker somehow than any other trip around
the sun. Here are some tips to stay present, savour the sweetness, and leave
with some beautiful memories.
Take a Breath
Seriously…in and out. You’re here, you’ve made it. Everything
that is going to get done, is done. Deep breathing helps you control your nervous
system, reducing stress and anxiety. Here are several different breathing exercises
that can help you to a calm, cool, and collected place.
Turn Off Your Phone
Instagram and Reddit will be there tomorrow. Checking the
weather non-stop won’t keep the rain away. You don’t need to take photos
because you have someone who’s quite good at it taking them for you. If anyone
really needs you before the ceremony, have a contact person like your MOH that
they can reach out to. It’s time to sit back, relax, and prep for that walk
down the aisle.
Hire Vendors You Trust
This one is a pre-emptive task, but if you have a solid team
working for you, you won’t feel the need to be babysitting them when you’re
supposed to be enjoying yourself. Make sure all expectations and special
requests are clearly communicated before your wedding day. Some questions will undoubtedly
come up, but good vendors who are on the same page as you will make everything flow
much smoother
Have a Generous Timeline
Things will take longer than you expect, little holdups will
happen, boutonnieres will be forgotten and need to be retrieved. We’ve never
once been to a wedding whereby at the end of the night things are running ahead
of schedule. If you have a little wiggle room in your timeline, especially before
the ceremony, you won’t have that anxiety-inducing stress of a time crunch.
Feel the Love
No day is flawless, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be
perfect, just the way it is (wink to all those who got the love actually
reference). Everyone that’s at your wedding is there because they love you and
want to celebrate the love you found with your partner. Take time throughout the
day to soak this. Look around the room and note the special moments happening.
Your grandmother beaming with pride, your brother pretending he’s not getting choked
up during the speeches. Even idiosyncrasies that usually annoy you can be seen
in an adoring way if you try, after all, these are your people.
